Biography
Tony Hogan – Artist, Author & International Demonstrator
Born in the UNESCO World Heritage village of Saltaire, West Yorkshire, Tony Hogan was the second youngest of twelve children. From an early age, he displayed a remarkable artistic talent. Although his father passed away while Tony was still a child, his mother and siblings encouraged him to nurture his creativity and pursue a career in art.
At just fifteen years old, Tony began his formal training at Bradford College of Art. After graduating, he spent the next decade working in creative advertising, brand image development, and specialist print industries, while continuing his studies part-time to broaden his artistic knowledge and technical skills.
Following roles with several international companies, Tony became Advertising and Marketing Manager for Wrangler Jeans UK. Despite enjoying a successful corporate career, his passion for fine art never diminished. With a young family and a leap of faith, he left the security of the business world to become a full-time professional artist.
“The best decision I ever made,” Tony says.
That decision has led to an internationally respected career spanning several decades. His paintings are held in collections around the world, and he has exhibited extensively through both solo and joint exhibitions. As an experienced tutor, Tony has taught to Fine Art degree level for the Open College of the Arts and continues to inspire artists of all abilities through workshops, demonstrations, and mentoring.
A respected voice within the art community, Tony regularly contributes articles to leading publications including Leisure Painter and Paint & Draw. He has also appeared on national television, presenting painting demonstrations and featuring in specially commissioned art programmes.
Tony works closely with many of the world’s leading art material manufacturers, demonstrating their products at exhibitions, art fairs, and workshops throughout the UK. Companies he has represented include:
- Daniel Smith Watercolours
- Atelier Interactive Acrylics
- Derwent
- St Cuthbert’s Mill
- Hahnemühle FineArt Papers
- Rosemary & Co Brushes
…and many others.
Decades of hands-on experience with watercolour, oils, acrylics, pastels, graphite, coloured pencils, and mixed media have given Tony an exceptional understanding of both materials and technique. His practical knowledge enables him to guide artists at every stage of their creative journey, helping them develop confidence, skills, and their own unique artistic voice.
Together with his wife, Eileen, Tony has also spent over thirty years running highly successful Art Holiday Courses, welcoming artists from across the UK and beyond who wish to develop their skills in an inspiring and supportive environment.
Today, Tony Hogan continues to paint, teach, write, demonstrate, and inspire, sharing a lifetime of artistic experience with collectors and aspiring artists around the world.
