What Our Students Are Saying
My recent Art Break with you was one of the richest visual and painting experiences I have ever had. Thanks to Tony’s expert tuition, I believe I have learned more about drawing and painting than I have in the past several years. Tony’s individual approach focuses on the goals of each student. A highly-accomplished artist himself, his expert teaching and in-depth knowledge of many different media provided me with the confidence to start to paint in acrylics, and to further develop mark-making skills using tinted charcoal, as well as to explore acrylic ink pencils, and new computer painting applications. Eileen and Tony are generous and thoughtful hosts. Our expeditions to sketch, paint and photograph, were wonderful. I heartily recommend Tony’s classes to all artists and students, regardless of level, who wish to experience the Wolds, and grow as an artist.
Eileen ShannonDear Tony,
What a brilliant week.
Many thanks for giving me the opportunity to paint with you.

Thank you so much for a fantastic week.
Good company. Excellent food !! Scenery !. Its been fabulous.
Hello Tony, At last I’ve got round to thanking you for all the help, advice, tips & demonstrations that you gave Janet, Alan & myself last week! We certainly packed a lot into our time with you & I found it all very useful for improving my approach to painting. It was good to see such a variety of scenery. My sketches & photographs of the locations have inspired me to have a go at painting them. Thank you both for making us feel so welcome in your lovely house. We all enjoyed your delicious meals & the chats around the dinner table. Give a big hug to Poppy from us all. Best wishes, Alison (Fisher)
Alison FisherWe would just like to thank you again for a great couple of days. Tony you are an inspiration, the course did just what we hoped it would – it has given us the confidence to have a go and a bit more knowledge to take forward. We also took on board that as long as we enjoy doing it the result is not really important. The food was lovely Eileen, we hope you get well looked after over Christmas in Cornwall and wish you a happy family time despite your recent loss. With best wishes Denise and Alan
Denise and Alan ParkinDear Tony, On behalf of Hartlepool Art Club I would like to extend a very big thank you for such an interesting & entertaining demonstration at our last club meeting. I have heard some very positive feedback from our members. It was inspiring to see acrylics being used in such a different way. I hope you and your wife had an easy journey back home after the demonstration, and I hope you enjoyed being with us too. Once again, very many thanks. With kind regards, Liz Littlefair
Liz LittlefairReminiscences of a hidden Jewel in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Once again as for many years past, we have been drawn back enthusiastically on painting holidays at the studio and gallery of local artists Tony and Eileen Hogan in the heart of the beautiful peaceful village of Killham in early November. In the unseasonable sunshine the village is sprinkled with beauty of many shades. A lovely stream fed duck pond lays alongside the Main Street swamped with flowers and overhanging trees. Tranquil picturesque walks wind through and around the village to help relax you after sampling the local cuisine. A large and atmospheric church looks down from a rise onto the centre of the village, which it shares with a family oriented local public house and an old fashioned family butchers shop. And opposite the Hogan’s artists studio and gallery is a post office complete with chairs for chats with friends while the personal touch is being dispensed at the business side of the post office. Protecting the village are beautiful paint worthy views on rising ground to the north which give on to the North Riding Forest Park and the seaside towns of Scarborough and Filey with miles of clean, fine sand running the length of the coast while the Yorkshire Wolds way wanders around from the north to the west of the village. Also to the west is the deserted medieval village of Wharram Percy and the stunning ancient city of York. While to the south and to the east are the beautiful and tranquil market town of Beverley, the seaside resort of Bridlington and the dramatic cliffs of Flamborough Head. Safe within this ring of drama and beauty the village fluoresces with homely peace and enchantment. Our number one is the overwhelming friendship and skills, artistic, social and culinary with which you are enfolded when you enter Tony and Eileen’s world of wonders. Demonstrations, personal help and support, jokes, laughter, companionship and camaraderie mean you leave with more skills and a great many more friends than you came with. The whole village is a gem lost in time and beauty. Terry Bird, Kent
Terry BirdGood morning Tony, Just a quick note to thank you for a great weekend and for all the trouble you took to put me right on so many occasions. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of it all and it has, I had hoped, opened up a whole new way of painting . I had a decent run back and was home in just over four hours! It will take me about the same time to clear up all my gear I think and to find homes for all the goodies you (and Chroma) provided. Thank you again for the weekend and for the happy and informal atmosphere in which we worked as well as for the many tips and hints you gave me. It will take a while to assimilate it all but it has been one of the best learning experiences I have had. Something to build on! Please thank Eileen too for the lovely meals, the cakes and the seemingly endless pots of coffee. With all best wishes Stuart
Stuart MacDonaldHi Tony Just a quick note to thank you and Eileen for such a brilliant weekend. We both really enjoyed it and learnt such a lot! I took my paintigs to my Art Group this morning and they created some admiration and a lot of discussion about the paints and techniques. A few of them are Atelier converts already but I think there will be a few more! We were back here by 7 after a good journey and Catherine got home to Birmingham just after 9, so I am glad we left when we did. I hope the others got home easily, they were a good bunch and I think we gelled well. I am sure we will see you again at a show or on another course. Thanks again for your patience and skill (and Eileen for lovely food and cakes!) Regards Vicki
