Join us for a five-day residential art course at the beautiful and peaceful Cober Hill Hotel, Scarborough.
Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced artist, all abilities and all painting media are welcome. These friendly, relaxed courses are led by Tony Hogan, an internationally recognised professional artist and qualified tutor who has been running this course for us successfully for many years.
Tony will guide and encourage you throughout the week, working at a pace and level suited to your individual experience and needs.

Cober Hill is situated on the Whitby Road, just outside Scarborough, and is set within extensive private grounds. The beautiful surroundings provide numerous opportunities for painting and inspiration.
Your Course
Monday – Arrival & Introduction
We begin at 3.00pm on Monday in the studio, where everyone will meet and settle in.
Tony will give an introductory talk followed by a demonstration before we enjoy our evening meal together.
Tuesday & Wednesday – En Plein Air & Studio Painting
After a hearty breakfast, those wishing to paint en plein air will leave the hotel at approximately 10.00am with Tony and be taken to a scenic location in or around Scarborough.
We return to the hotel and studio at around 2.00pm.
If you prefer to remain at Cober Hill and paint in the studio, you are very welcome to do so.
At approximately 3.00pm, Tony will give further demonstrations, exploring different media, techniques and approaches. These are optional, so you can simply relax and enjoy the surroundings if you prefer.
After the evening meal, the studio remains available for anyone who would like to continue painting. Alternatively, unwind in the comfortable lounge with a glass of wine or a coffee and enjoy the company of fellow artists.
Thursday – Painting at Cober Hill
On Thursday, en plein air painting takes place throughout the day in the extensive grounds of Cober Hill, offering plenty of subjects and inspiration.
Of course, the studio is also available for those who prefer to work indoors.
Following the evening meal, we meet in the studio for an informal review and discussion of the artwork produced during the course. Tony will offer constructive feedback and guidance for those who wish to take part.
Friday – Departure
The course concludes after breakfast on Friday morning.
About Tony Hogan
Tony Hogan is an internationally recognised professional artist and tutor, with his work held in homes and galleries around the world.
He works as an ambassador and demonstrator for a number of leading art manufacturers and has appeared on television, exhibited widely and written articles for leading art magazines.
His friendly and approachable teaching style makes the course enjoyable and accessible to artists of all levels.
